Sugar,Spice And Not Everything Nice:Things that Define Me

What are little girls made of made of
What are little girls made of?
Sugar & spice
And everything nice
I still remember this nursery rhyme. And I am sure this is the general notion about every little girl. A girl is gifted dolls and small kitchen or home decor play sets to nurture her homemaking skills from a very young age. When we have guests visiting, the girl is ordered to serve water, tea or snacks. Why is she not gifted with a football so that she can play in the mud with the "boys"?

As any other little girl, even I had been taught to be obedient, soft-spoken, eat without opening my mouth and sit appropriately and follow my table manners. I had followed these rules and still follow and so do all of us. I am not saying it is bad to be well-mannered, but there is more to me than that.

My freedom is the most important thing to me. I am not ready to be bound by the notion or impression that the world has for me. I want to live my life on my own terms. That does not mean I will ignore my duties of a wife, a daughter and a daughter-in-law. I have a free mind, I have my own beliefs and ideologies and no one has or can interfere in that.

I am far from being perfect, the way the world thinks I should be and this imperfection is a part of me. I am not ashamed of that, nor do I want to hide that. I have never tried to build a facade of goodness around me. I am what I am-a blend of some things good and some things which are not according to others. I have embraced these not so perfect things and I want not to be perceived by others as only a good wife or a good daughter.  I am made of sugar, spice, like everyone wants me to and also some snips, snail, puppy dog tail that I want to be made of.
